Royal Circuits Acquires South Coast Circuits
August 4, 2021 | Royal CircuitsEstimated reading time: 1 minute
Royal Circuit Solutions, a digital manufacturing leader of custom circuit boards, has completed its acquisition of South Coast Circuits in order to further expand its quick-turn printed circuit board (PCB) fabrication services. The deal marks the second acquisition Royal Circuit Solutions has completed as it continues to expand its PCB manufacturing operations and market reach.
Based on the terms of the merger, which involved South Coast Circuits and Royal Flex Circuits, a subsidiary of Royal Circuit Solutions, the facility in Santa Ana, CA will continue to conduct business as South Coast Circuits. Victor Hemingway, current President of Royal Flex Circuits, will become President of South Coast Circuits and will continue to report to Milan Shah, owner and co-founder of Royal Circuit Solutions.
“This is a very exciting transaction that will create an even larger, more dominant PCB manufacturing group,” said Milan Shah, CEO of Royal Circuit Solutions. “It is a landmark deal for the PCB industry and another step forward in Royal Circuits’ mission to help design engineers bring new product designs to market as quickly as possible.”
Founded in 1982, South Coast Circuits has a diverse, loyal customer base in a variety of industries, including computer, communications, ATE, aerospace, networking test & measurement, medical, and consumer electronics. The tenured staff has helped the company build a solid reputation for delivering quality, high-end technical circuit boards. This merger also allows Royal Circuit Solutions to further expand its service offerings for the ATE industry.
“The alignment in company values and culture between the companies made this a great opportunity for our employees and customers,” said Chuck Benson, former President of South Coast Circuits. “Together, South Coast Circuits and Royal Circuit Solutions will be able to achieve rapid expansion while delivering the quality, speed and service that our customers have come to rely on.”
South Coast Circuits will provide rigid, flex and rigid-flex circuit board fabrication as well as PCB assembly for prototypes to mid-volume production quantities.

PCBflow Helps Designers Choose Best Manufacturer for the Job
03/28/2024 | Andy Shaughnessy, Design007 MagazineI recently spoke with a few technologists who have first-hand experience with PCBflow: Susan Kayesar, technical product manager with Siemens; Evgeny Makhline, CTO of Nistec, a CEM based in Israel; and Peter Tranitz, senior director of technology solutions and leader of the IPC Design Initiative. They explain how PCBflow functions, from the designer’s and manufacturer’s viewpoint, and how this database helps break down the wall between these stakeholders.

Elementary, Mr. Watson: Ensuring Design Integrity
03/28/2024 | John Watson -- Column: Elementary, Mr. WatsonBack in February, many of us watched the "Big Game." It reminded me of the saying, “It's not how you start that is important, but rather how you finish." It is perfectly okay when you are talking about sports, you get off to a bad first half and need to recover in the second half. However, when it comes to PCB design, this is not a good practice. If things start badly, they usually don't recover. They continue down that same path, costing more money and losing design time.
Punching Out: Acquiring a PCB/EMS Shop: Brownfield vs. Greenfield
03/27/2024 | Tom Kastner -- Column: Punching Out!We often get asked about establishing a new company (greenfield) rather than buying an existing PCB or EMS shop (brownfield). There are many criteria to consider. Many buyers want to grow through M&A, but they cannot find acquisition targets that fit their criteria. Perhaps they can find the right shop, or at least one that fits five out of 10 criteria, but they encounter obstacles, such as owners who do not want to sell, price expectations that are too high, or negotiations that are too difficult. Despite the interest in building new facilities, since 2000, few companies have gone the greenfield route. Here is a look at the pros and cons of buying vs. building.
