BMW Tops Connected Automotive Infotainment Assessment

BMW nudges Ford for first place in ABI Research’s latest Connected Automotive Infotainment competitive assessment. This competitive assessment was split into two categories: Innovation and Implementation.

BMW leads the Innovation category with strong performances in feature set, including streaming, social networking, and in-car Wi-Fi. Ford comes in second thanks to its connected navigation performance based on its partnerships with Telenav and SiriusXM. Mercedes-Benz narrowly tops Audi AG in third in due part to its app store, myCOMAND.

In the Implementation category Ford tops BMW which ties with GM and finishes ahead of Toyota. Both Ford and BMW score highly in regional coverage though BMW still lags far behind Ford in market share.

“2014 proved to be a fairly interesting year since Ford did not come first but lost out to BMW. BMW scores extremely well across a number of Innovation criteria and has proven to be a leader in connected automotive infotainment for a number of years. Despite its large market share, Ford lost points in the category of quality and reliability due to its issues with MyFord Touch, which hopefully will be fixed in SYNC 3. In addition a number of players have climbed the rankings and have demonstrated they are making aggressive plans where connectivity is concerned, including VW and Volvo,” comments Filomena Berardi, Senior Analyst, ABI Research.

These findings are part of ABI Research’s Automotive Infotainment Market Research.
